Born in 1978, Michael Russell began playing tennis at age 5 with his father and coach, George Russell. Michael grew up in Michigan before attending Saddlebrook High School (Tampa, FL) and graduating as the high school’s Valedictorian. Russell then played collegiately at the University of Miami, finishing #7 in the final NCAA rankings. Michael earned his very first professional ATP points in 1997 at the Indian Wells Satellites. From then, he never looked back. Russell has competed in each of the Grand Slams and is rapidly working his way back to his career high #60 ranking.

Michael, also known as “Mussell”, “Wheels”, and “Iron Mike”, has an older brother who played tennis collegiately at Princeton. Michael considers clay his favorite surface, and he served as the practice partner for the US Davis Cup team. Favorite food is Sushi. Married to Liliana Russell.
